Bottled Water

About a month after I retired, I started having this feeling. It was kind of an odd feeling. Not like a cold was coming on or I had a spider crawling on my arm. Just an odd feeling. Then it hit me. Something was missing from my life.

Oh, we are okay financially and secure in our home. We have a lot to eat, maybe too much and we have plenty to do. But there was something missing. Then it hit me.

I didn’t feel as valued as I once did. Don’t get me wrong, Judy loves what I do around the house and the projects are rewarding…but I was missing making sure that everyone around me was well taken care of and happy. I had left a part of me behind.

A few days later, I found this perspective on value that I had shared with some folks about a year or so ago. I am not the original author but it meant so much to me then and even more so now. Thought it was time to share again!

This is a bottle of water.

It costs 49 cents at an outlet like Sam’s Club or Costco.

$1.59 in the refrigerator unit at the checkout line

$2.99 at a convenience store

$3.99 at a restaurant

$5.99 at a major sporting event

It is the same bottle of water, however its value changes depending on who needs it and where. We can take that same logic and apply it to ourselves.

We all have our value in life and at work. Please feel valued! If you don’t feel as valued as you should, consider changing something that will increase your value.

You are YOU just like that water is water. YOU can control how much you are valued.

After I read this, I stopped saying “Ya know, I should start a blog” and actually went and did it. It isn’t much yet but I felt a need to stay connected and to make a difference in the lives of others. Feeling good about ourselves is even more important today, in a world of hurting, in a world of instant news, both good and bad. We all need to feel needed and value those around us.

Sometimes I miss the days of no internet, but that’s like saying I miss buying gas at 29 cents a gallon. Neither one is coming back, so suck it up, Sailor!

I just have to realize when my brain has been bombarded with enough information and opinions. I have actually started sending emails to my state and federal elected officials who represent me in our government, letting them know how I feel about things and hoping I can make a difference.

I changed the value of my bottle of water.

Joe Alpaca wonders what a scientist’s favorite breed of dog is? Likely a lab.

Here are some messages fro others I found while searching for 29 cent gas.

and finally.....................

PEACE OUT!!!
